Collection Requirements Blood should be drawn in a green and black (lithium heparin) or red (serum) tube.
Minimum Volume 0.5 mL
Cause for Rejection Specimens that are improperly labeled, collected in tubes other than those listed, collected at the wrong time or deemed QNS will be rejected. Excessive hemolysis and icterus should be avoided.
Specimen Handling/Stability Complete clot formation should take place before centrifugation. Serum or plasma should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of two hours from the time of collection. Specimens should be free of particulate matter.
Specimen Storage Stability Specimen stable for up to 6 weeks at 2-8°C and 6 months at -20°C. Samples are maintained and saved in the laboratory for 7 days at 4°C.
